The Game

Simple to learn.
Impossible to stop playing.

Kubb (pronounced “koob”) is a Swedish yard game played by two players/teams on a rectangular pitch. The goal is to knock over all of your opponent’s kubbs using  batons, then take out the king in the center to win.

It’s simple to learn, and difficult to master. The combination of strategy, precision, and luck makes every game different, and the social nature of the game means you’ll spend as much time making friends as competing.

Kubb is played at backyard cookouts and at national championships. The same game, the same spirit, from first-timers to elite competitors.

1. Set up the field
Measure out the pitch. Ten kubbs total. 5 standing on each baseline. The king stands in the center.

2. Knock over kubbs
Throw batons underhand to knock down your opponent’s baseline kubbs. Kubbs that fall become “field kubbs” and your opponent tosses them back to your side of the field.

3. Clear field kubbs
When you have field kubbs on your opponent’s half, you must knock those over before knocking down their baseline kubbs.

4. Go for the king
Once all of the kubbs in your opponent’s half are down, hit the king to win. Knock it over prematurely and you lose immediately.
